Steve Cotterill reflects on Town's defeat in Morecambe

Steve Cotterill reflects on Town's Sky Bet League One defeat away from home against Morecambe.

Shrewsbury Town's opening away fixture of the 2021/22 Sky Bet League One campaign came to an end with Town losing out at Morecambe.

Despite Town's efforts, the league's newcomers managed to register a 2-0 win over Steve Cotterill's team having put home a swift double in the first-half.

Town's Manager was disappointed with the result and felt his team deserved to leave the north empty-handed.

On the result:

"We gave away a stupid penalty, that gave Morecambe a leg-up in the game. It wasn't a good time to come here, going up against a team who are newly promoted and it didn't take them long to get going.

"The second goal, we ended up playing a blind pass which got intercepted, that ended up with a corner and their striker ended up putting it home from two yards out. From then on, we gave ourselves a mountain to climb. You're not always going to get back into games like we did the other night.

"Today, for me. there wasn't enough spark or determination from us. We didn't do enough to get anything from the game. I don't think there are many plus points we can take from the game, not after losing 2-0.

On debutant Sam Cosgrove:

"I thought he was good when he came on and he looked lively. I didn't want to bring him on as early as I did but we needed to take the opportunity to change things. The sooner we get him integrated into the group, the better."
