Steve Cotterill reflects on Town's loss against Plymouth Argyle

Steve Cotterill reflects on Town's Sky Bet League One home loss against Plymouth Argyle.

Shrewsbury Town's return to Montgomery Waters Meadow ended with visitors Plymouth Argyle taking all three points.

Ryan Lowe's men notched their opening goal in the first-half through Ryan Hardie before Luke Jephcott and Hardie struck home the next two goals in the second-half to secure the win in Shropshire.

On the result:

"We are disappointed. With the possession we had, and with the crosses, we put in, we should have done more with those. We had a number of crosses and we didn't get on the end of them - we need to be more ruthless. We can't give teams the goals we've given away today. We have given away three poor goals from our possession - from good possession.

"They passed straight through us for the second goal from our attack. That's another goal from a hooked clearance. We have enough nouse in the team to lock teams out better than we have done. It wasn't a 3-0 game but we didn't deserve to get anything from it.

"They've had four efforts on goal and three of them have gone in. We've had something like 17 shots and one of them on target - that's not good enough. We aren't going to win games if we end up defending like that. When the boys don't keep a clean sheet, it makes the rest of the team snatch at chances.

"We didn't want to end up having a start like this but we need to make sure we do better when we've got the ball. We needed to keep possession because we want to attack teams but we can't leave the back door wide open like we have today."
