Steve Cotterill previews Salop's match against Fleetwood Town

24 December 2021

Shrewsbury Town boss Steve Cotterill previews Salop's Boxing Day fixture away at Fleetwood Town.

Salop are back on the road on Boxing Day as they travel to Lancashire to face Fleetwood Town.

Shrewsbury head into the fixture off the back of a fantastic home win against Cheltenham Town where they displayed their fantastic team spirit to secure the three points, despite playing 50 minutes with ten men.

The boss was full of praise for The Cod Army and their new manager Stephen Crainey who was put in charge permanently on Tuesday.

On the fixture:

"I've seen that they're a spirited team. It looks like Stephen Crainey - since he's taken charge - has played a lot of the young players. I think they've done very well and we know it'll be a tough game, one we're looking forward to but it'll be tough.

"It's another away game, we've had quite a few of those of late, but to prepare properly as we would do we'll still be in on Christmas day ahead of the game. It obviously puts people out a bit more this time of year when its family time but there are games to be getting on with, we wouldn't normally give players the day off before a game anyway so our preparation has been normal and we've started that today

"We would normally have two days to prepare for a game but because of Christmas this time we've got three days. Christmas morning will be a bit shorter and sharper because we want the players to get back with their families but the bulk of the work has been done today and we'll finish off what's left of that tomorrow."

On the team spirit:

"I think I said last week that if anybody questioned our team spirit they only had to see last week's game. Sometimes people need to see it out on display to know how good it is. Everyone knows where they are in the dressing room and that's led to a great atmosphere in and around the training ground, at matches, or wherever we are."
