Steve Cotterill previews Town's fixture with Carlisle United

2 December 2021

Steve Cotterill previews Town's Emirates FA Cup second round fixture with Carlisle United away from home.

Shrewsbury Town's next fixture sees Steve Cotterill's men take on Carlisle United in the second round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Looking to build on Town's Sky Bet League One win over Charlton Athletic, Salop will be looking to book a spot in the potentially illustrious third round.

Town's Manager is expecting a stern test in the north but hopes to see his side secure their passage into the next round of the competition.

On the fixture:

"It's a long way, that was my immediate reaction. I've met a number of people from Carlisle over the year and they're very warm people. We are looking forward to going up there this weekend and we will try to keep our little bit of form going. We've had a good look at Carlisle now and there certainly won't be any surprises. We started that work this morning and this game is only similar to the last FA Cup game in that they're not in League One.

"They're a very big club with great tradition. They will get our full respect going into the game that's for sure. They can play a bit of both and have done that since Keith went in. We tapped on them this morning and we'll enforce that again tomorrow. At times, they play off the strikers and at times they play into midfield. They've done a bit of both in all of the games we've looked at.

"The third round isn't something we're looking into. We just have to focus on this game and remain fully professional. We'll try our best and try to work on some of the things we've worked on today and tomorrow.

"The lads are fine going into the game, they're all in good form. Why wouldn't they be at this moment time; they're all looking forward to the game. We have no fresh injury concerns going into this one, only the existing ones that we've got. We'll have to leave them as late as possible really. Until then, we won't 100% know our starting lineup. We've worked on enough things this week to prepare for the ifs."
