Steve Cotterill previews Town's fixture with Doncaster Rovers

10 December 2021

Steve Cotterill previews Shrewsbury Town’s Sky Bet League One fixture away at Doncaster Rovers.

Shrewsbury Town are back on the road on Saturday as they make the journey north to face struggling Doncaster Rovers.

Steve Cotterill’s men head into the fixture off the back of a defeat away at high-flying Wigan Athletic, who netted a 92nd-minute winner on Wednesday night.

The manager is preparing his side for their third game in a week and is hoping to pick up a valued victory ahead of a busy Christmas period.

ON THE FIXTURE:

“We know it’s a quick turnaround, not a lot of preparation time, not a lot of rest time; it happens when you have that Wednesday night fixture really, it doesn’t sit right with you. I know it’s the third game in the week and there’s been more travelling, but it’s more like a Saturday to Tuesday – if we gauge Wednesday night as our Saturday game – so we have to look at it that way.  There’s not too much preparation time but, hopefully, there’s enough time to get the lads somewhat prepared for the third game in the week.

“You can’t prepare the travelling in them. Going to Carlisle, coming back, going to Wigan, coming back, going to Doncaster, you can’t prepare for that. It’s not an ideal week for us with regards to all of that, we’ll prepare the best we can. There’s not a lot more we can do. You’ve got to look after them, you’ve got to make sure they understand what they’re doing and what the game plan is in a short period of time. Rather than going into so much detail, you can hopefully get in what are going to be the relevant points of the game."

On Doncaster Rovers:

“Very little at the moment if I’m brutally honest. Yesterday was the first time we’ve looked at them and it’s very difficult because they’ve obviously changed manager. You’ll try and see if there are too many differences; I’d probably know what they’d do if Richie Wellens was in charge because I’d have seen more of them. That’s changed slightly, we looked at them in detail yesterday and we’ll follow that up this morning.”
