David Longwell previews Town's clash with Bristol Rovers

David Longwell previews Town's Sky Bet League One away clash with Bristol Rovers.

The Shrewsbury Town squad are back on the road this weekend as Steve Cotterill's men take on Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium.

Unbeaten in four league fixtures, the Shrews will be looking to extend an impressive run with a victory over Joe Barton's Rovers away from home.

David Longwell expects a tough test from the home side but notes the Town squad are feeling confident ahead of every fixture.

Update on the Gaffer:

"I spoke to him yesterday for a couple of hours. He speaks to Aaron and me regularly, giving us updates on how things are. We debriefed the game from Tuesday, and he's still in contact with us every day.  He's still spending a lot of time on planning and preparation.

"He's out of the hospital and back home. He's working hard and looking at the opposition. He's helping us and making sure the stuff we're doing on the training pitch is relevant. He is getting better but it's going to take time. He had a bad case and he's having to be patient."

On the tie:

"Joey Barton is working with different players and they will play different systems. What Joey did at Fleetwood won't necessarily happen at Bristol Rovers. All you can really do is look at their last game, but there is very limited footage we can look at.

"It's a little bit of an unknown but we are preparing ourselves the best we can. We know it's going to be a tough game because Bristol Rovers have some really good players. They've brought Joey in because they think he can improve them and they will come after us.

"They are fighting for points just as we are, so we have to be as prepared as we can be. We will be going there to try and get a result. You have to respect the fact they have some good players in the team. They have maybe underperformed a little bit, we need to be wary of them.

"They have got good players that can score goals and we have to be ready for that. At any level, when a manager comes in you get a boost. We expect that on Saturday. They're going to be up for it and will be coming after us."
