Get to know Callum Wilson & Ben Crompton as they answer quick-fire questions!

First-year year scholar Callum joined as a U16 from Derby County having previously been there since U13s to U15 and immediately impressed with his natural athleticism. At 6’1", Callum can use his physical attributes as either a centre-back or right-back.

Ben is 6’1" first-year scholar who joined the Salop under-18's following his release from Wolves at U16s. Ben is a technical player who predominantly plays as a central midfield player but can play as a centre0back.

Name, Age and position?

Callum: My name is Callum Wilson, I'm a right-back and I'm 16.

Ben: I'm Ben Crompton, 17 and I am a central midfielder and can play as centre-back.

Former clubs?

Callum: I was at Derby County from 13-15. Before that, I was just playing Saturday league for Telford United.

Ben: I was at Wolves for 10 years from the age of six. I moved to Shrewsbury at 16.

How would you describe yourself as a player?

Callum: Quick, good defensively on a one-v-one and I like to get around the pitch.

Ben: I would say I'm comfortable on the ball, I have a good range of passing and I like to read the game from centre-back - I try to take that into midfield.

Who are your footballing idols?

Callum: Cristiano Ronaldo. I used to support Man United and then I followed him when he went to Madrid. Positionally, I would say Sergio Ramos because he made the move from right-back and he can play centre-back.

Ben: I would say Conor Coady at the moment because I watch him a lot. When we play three at the back, I play in the middle like him.

What other sports do you like?

Callum: I've always liked watching and doing athletics. I like the 100m and the 200m races. I like watching people like Usain Bolt.

Ben: I like watching boxing when that's on. I also watch a bit of the darts at Christmas.

What are your pre-match routines and rituals?

Callum: Before a match, I like to do my stretching, get my head in the zone, listen to music and I have the same meal before every game. I eat beans, egg and toast to get the carbs and protein in.

Ben: I like to eat the right foods, listen to some music and get ready for the game. I always prepare as well as possible with some rice and pasta with chicken. Closer to the game, I will have a banana.

What boots are you currently wearing?

Callum: New Balance Tekela's. They're very comfy. They're all white and match the away kit.

Ben: I am wearing Adidas Nemeziz at the moment - some red ones.

All-time favourite boots?

Callum: Probably Mike Mercurial. I can't remember what version but they're all black and have a white tick.

Ben: I like the old Hypervenom - they were very comfy.

How do you wear your kit?

Callum: I like to wear a thermal skin. Every training session I will wear one.

Ben: I wear small shin-pads.
