Brian Caldwell gives his reaction to Town's third round re-scheduled Emirates FA Cup fixture with Southampton.
Shrewsbury Town Football Club earlier confirmed our third round Emirates FA Cup fixture with Southampton has been rescheduled for Tuesday 19th January (8:00pm kick-off)
Town will face off with the Premier League outfit at St. Mary's in the hope of facing Arsenal at Montgomery Waters Meadow in the next round.
Brian is pleased all parties were able to work together on the reschedule and is looking forward to a Salop team taking on another strong opposition in the competition.
"As the days went on, we thought that we would have to forfeit the game which we never wanted to do. If it was a choice of putting health first or forfeiting the game, we would have forfeited the game - we don't want to put anyone's health at risk.
"Over the last number of days, we have had a lot of discussions with the FA about re-scheduling the game. Fair play to them, they did everything they could to make this happen. The last thing they wanted to see was a team having to forfeit. There has been a lot of discussions between us and Southampton, the FA, the Premier League and their medical advisors.
"It's great news that we are getting this opportunity to play in the Emirates FA Cup. I think it's good for the competition's integrity."
