Shrewsbury Town Football Club is deeply saddened to receive news that Spencer Whelan has passed away aged 49.
The former defender joined Shrewsbury Town in 1998 from Chester City and spent two years with Salop.
The Liverpool-born centre-half made 25 appearances for the Shrews before retirement at the age of 29. The final professional game of his career came against his former club in March 2000.
