David Davis reflects on Town's loss against Portsmouth

28 March 2021

David Davis reflects on Town's narrow Sky Bet League One loss against Portsmouth.

Shrewsbury Town were unable to extend the unbeaten run with the visit of Portsmouth as the away side secured a narrow 1-2 win.

Despite Town pulling a goal back early in the second-half through Nathanael Ogbeta, the away side remained resolute to see the game out - despite being a man down.

Town midfielder David Davis was frustrated with the result and feels T

On the result:

"We are disappointed because we started slow and then we had a mountain to climb. It felt like we were a lot better in the second half, but them having 10 men made it difficult for us to break them down. We didn't move the ball as well as we should have and we are disappointed to not get anything from the game.

"We weren't quite at the races and that gave us a mountain to climb. We tried to get the ball down, play with more intensity and get at Portsmouth. Nat made a great run and he's done that a few times in the past couple of weeks. They sat in and screened well with 10 men. We didn't move the ball well enough, we were probably better when they had 11.

"It has been good coming into a group that is getting positive results and that's why we are so disappointed today. Today we could have built on recent results but it wasn't mean to be. We will dust ourselves down and get ready for Friday."

On regular football:

"It's massive for me. I just want to be contributing to the team whether I am selected or not. I am enjoying working with familiar faces and being with a team that is hard-working. The lads have made it really, really enjoyable for me.

"I feel like I am doing ok, but I know I have a lot more to give. I am still building my way in, but for my own personal standards, I want to keep progressing and helping the team push forward. There is competition for places and you have to be on your toes."
