David Longwell reflects on Town's loss against Fleetwood Town

6 March 2021

David Longwell reflects on Town's Sky Bet League One loss to Fleetwood Town.

Shrewsbury Town's afternoon ultimately ended in disappointment as Fleetwood Town secured a 2-0 win at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

Two goals in each half from the visitors was enough to send the Cod Army away side home with all three points.

David Longwell was disappointed with the result and felt Town should have done more to trouble the away side's defence.

On the result:

"We are all really disappointed as you can imagine. This wasn't the result we wanted and not the performance we wanted today. Conceding a goal before half-time has happened before and it gives you a mountain to climb. Going in at 0-0 changes the dynamic of the game.

"It was a poor goal from our point of view. It made things difficult and it means we have to chase in the second half. There weren't many chances for either team in the first-half but they capitalised on our mistake. We made positive changes to try and get back into the game but it's difficult.

"We didn't create enough and we couldn't get that goal. Goals change games and we just didn't create enough chances. Today, and last Saturday,  we just weren't at the same levels as before. The level of performance needs to get back to how it was before. We need to get back to what we were doing previously.

"We play again on Tuesday and the lads need to show a response for the manager and for themselves. They have to because we need to reach the same levels. "
