Match report: Burton Albion 1 Shrewsbury Town 2

23 March 2021

Town secure three points on the road against Burton Albion.

A tough encounter at the Pirelli stadium came to an end with Town securing a 1-2 win on the road. Curtis Main and Harry Chapman were the duo on hand to secure the vital goals for Town that saw Salop over the line.

Town started the game in perfect fashion with an early goal. Nathanael Ogbeta swung in an awkward deflected cross that wrong-footed Burton shot-stopper Ben Garratt. The ball bounced towards the keeper and Curtis Main's leap put off the keeper as the ball bounced over the line.

Despite an early goal, the home side kept their intensity and attacked the Salop backline at any given opportunity. Ogbeta had his work cut out for him with Lucas Akins looking to break down the right wing to cause problems in the final third.

The second goal of the game came 10 minutes into the second period. Ogbeta floated a pinpoint cross in towards the path of Harry Chapman and Town's forward made no mistake. Chapman caught the ball on the volley and saw his effort nestle into the back of the net via the side netting - giving Ben Garratt no chance in between the sticks.

Four minutes later, in the 59th minute, the home side halved the deficit. Brewers man Sean Clare did well to dribble into the box and the midfielder was able to guide a curling effort into the top corner of the net.

An end-to-end game continued as the Brewers looked to force themselves back onto level terms. Town's defence was tested but looked resolute as the minutes ticked towards the 90. Substitution  Ryan Sears did well to slot into the game as his headers and blocks frustrated Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's team.

After four minutes of additional added time, the fixture ended with Steve Cotterill's men taking a deserved three points back to Shropshire.
