Shrewsbury Town host virtual quiz

19 March 2021

Shrewsbury Town players have agreed to support a local children’s charity by hosting a virtual online quiz on Wednesday 24th March at 7.00pm.

Just before the end of the lockdown, when life starts to return to a new normal, Shrewsbury Town Football Club have agreed to support the community by hosting a Virtual Quiz, which will be raising money for The Movement Centre in Oswestry.

The centre had to close its door in 2020 due to Covid 10, and having reopened in their 25th year, are looking to raise £156,000 which will support 25 children in having Physiotherapy to help them gain vital movement. The treatment which they receive called Targeted Therapy is an intensive Physiotherapy and looks to allow children to develop movement. Children often with Cerebral Palsy come to the centre from all over the UK in the hope that this treatment will get them sitting up and walking. The treatment costs over £6,000, and by us raising the money will help families towards the cost.

Stuart Danks of D M Recruitment is one of the local business that has pledged to raise £12,000 towards this campaign, and as one of Shrewsbury town main sponsors and a big supporter himself, he offered to ask if the team could be involved with the fundraiser.

Stuart Danks said, “As one of our charity partners, The Movement Centre have our full support with all their fundraising events. I’m confident that a virtual quiz presented by Shrewsbury Town players will attract lots of attention within the community to help raise vital funds for the charity, so it was a pleasure to connect them. A huge thank you to Shrewsbury Town for giving the event their support. What better way to see off the lockdown than with an extra special online quiz? I’m looking forward to taking part!”

Johnny Wilkes – Chief Executive of The Movement Centre who is also a lifelong Town fan and long-time season ticket holder says “we are absolutely delighted to have Stuart from D M Recruitment supporting us, and we are extremely thankful and grateful that he has put us in touch with Shrewsbury Town, who have agreed to support us in hosting a virtual quiz. Raising awareness is essential to us and this event sends out a message to the parents and relatives of those children who need our treatment – it tells them that there is help out there and that we can raise funds that will support the families to meet the cost of this life-changing treatment.

Shrewsbury Town Says “It’s great to be able to support worthwhile local charities, when the lads heard of the cause, they were excited to be involved any way they could. We’re expecting a great night and hopefully we can help to raise vital funds to support the great work of the Movement Centre”.
