Josh Vela reflects on Town's Sky Bet League One loss against Oxford United.

Shrewsbury Town welcomed play-off chasing Oxford United to Montgomery Waters Meadow this weekend for the penultimate home game of the season.

Salop were unable to secure a result against the in-form side as Karl Robinson's men left Shropshire with all three points after a 3-2 win.

Despite netting a goal for Salop, Josh Vela was left disappointed as the away sitter got the better of his team.

On the result:

“We did well to get back in front after a sloppy start. We were the better team, then in the second-half, we just didn’t get going. A lot of us are tired as we have played a lot of games - they had a fresh week.

“We had a few chances towards the end, but we are disappointed not to have taken something out of the game. I was happy to get a goal and it was a decent finish on my right foot.

“They are a good team, they pass the ball well and they got us moving. Towards the end, we had a couple of chances to get the equaliser and the keeper made some really good saves - we were unlucky not to get something out of the game."

On Tom Bloxham getting his first league start:

“He had a really good game and he is a real handful. He was up against two experienced defenders and they didn’t know what they were up against so he can be really pleased with his performance."

On having manager Steve Cotterill back:

“We found out on Thursday that he was going to be back. It was massive to have him back, he gave us a little speech before the game about what he has been though it was quite emotional.

“It gave us a real kick and we wanted to go and win the game for him. We couldn’t do that but he was pleased with the efforts that we showed today.

“It was brilliant, he came in just the same shouting making everyone laugh. It was quite emotional. We know what he has been through and it’s been a difficult time for him but we are happy that now he is back and he looks and feels a lot better."
