Luke Leahy - First interview

17 May 2021

Luke Leahy agrees to join Town on a two-year deal.

Shrewsbury Town Football Club earlier welcomed Luke Leahy to Shropshire as the 28-year-old agreed a two-year deal at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

A defender, who can also play in a wing-back position, Luke joins Town having netted 10 goals in the last Sky Bet League One campaign with Bristol Rovers - as well as providing five assists.

The Coventry-born left-footed defender is delighted to have made the move to Shropshire and notes he is looking forward to working with Salop Manager Steve Cotterill.

On joining Salop:

"I am happy to be here. I am glad it has been done early doors, I am looking forward to focusing on what is ahead. I know some of the lads through playing against them and to get it sorted early means I can enjoy getting ready to come back.

"I met the Manager in the week and straight away it was like I'd known him for a while. It was easy to speak to him and we spoke about a lot of things. Just a couple of minutes into the conversation, I could tell he would be good for what I needed."

On what Town fans can expect:

"Hopefully we can have a good season. Adding goals to my game is something I needed to add, especially playing wing-back. Thankfully I have done that and hopefully I can do the same again. I would describe myself as an attack-minded player, I like to get up and down the line and I am decent at the back post. I am a player that will give everything and I like to think I'm a leader on and off the pitch. I will give everything to the Football Club each Saturday and Tuesday.

"Having fans back is the biggest thing that needs to happen once we are all back. Fans make football games. Having fans back in is something I am excited for and I am looking forward to that first game in the stadium."
