Academy match report: Salford 6 - 1 Shrewsbury Town

29 November 2021

Shrewsbury Town lose out 6-1 away from home against Salford.

With under 18's regulars Kade Craig, Ben Kaninda and Callum Wilson all involved with Steve Cotterill's first-team squad in Town's 1-0 win over Charlton Athletic at Montgomery Waters Meadow, Salop had the tough task of shutting out high-scoring Salford City away from home.

In usual circumstances, the fixture would have been described as a tough game against strong opposition. This proved to be true as the home side made Salop's young team pay on more than one occasion off the back our own mistakes in possession; showing why Salford have scored the most goals in the league this season.

With notable absences, distinctly at the back for Town, the home side were able to capitalise on the bulk of Town's backline earning their chance to be involved with the Salop senior Sky Bet League One environment - the key objective for all at the Shrewsbury Sports Village.

From the game, Town's players and coaching staff were disappointed with the result and in particular, the second-half performance wasn’t to the standards we’ve shown and it will be important to show more character in the next game.
