Matthew Pennington previews Town's clash with Charlton Athletic

Matthew Pennington previews Town's Sky Bet League One home clash with Charlton Athletic.

Shrewsbury Town welcome Charlton Athletic to Montgomery Waters Meadow this weekend for the second of two consecutive home games.

Following on from Town's 1-1 draw with Sunderland last time out, Steve Cotterill's men will be looking to go one better with all three points against the Addicks.

Town centre-back Matthew Pennington is looking forward to the tie and hopes to secure three points for the Salopian family.

On the fixture:

"The fans were brilliant in the last game and they kept us going even with 10 men. They helped us win that point in the end and kept us going. I think we did well as a team in the end. Sunderland will be up there come the end of the season so it was a good point under the circumstances. We had a few injuries and a suspension before the red card.

"It's not easy when you go down to 10 men. There's more running involved and you have to adapt your game a little bit. You can't be as expansive and you have to pick your moments when going forward. I thought we did that well on Tuesday but hopefully, we won't have to do that on Saturday.

"Charlton had a tough start to the season but recently their results have picked up so it will be a tough test. I haven't seen them play but those results must mean they're playing better.

"Our home form has been good recently and we are looking to build and get three points this weekend. It's always good to build a fortress at home but we need to build on home results when going away from home. Coming back in and playing a couple of games after having Covid has been good and I am feeling good - I was happy with that."
