Steve Cotterill reflects on Town's win over Stratford Town

Steve Cotterill reflects on Town's Emirates FA Cup away win over Stratford Town.

Shrewsbury Town's first round Emirates FA Cup fixture with Southern League Premier Division Central outfit Stratford Town ended with Town taking home a 5-1 win.

Despite Steve Cotterill's men conceding the first goal, Town's professionalism shone through as Salop went on to net on five occasions.

Town's Manager was pleased with Town's progression and praised the home side for providing a stern test.

On the result:

"When you give teams from a lower league a leg-up, it gives them a chance to get another and then you have a mountain to climb. Thankfully that didn't happen and we got the equaliser before half time. We regrouped a little bit, talked about what happened in that half and talked about the things we could exploit.

"We scored some really good goals from good play leading up to them. That's really important to get yourselves into those positions where you can score goals. In among the goals, we had the honest endeavour of Rekeil Pyke and Dan Udoh today. More chances will come to those two. Tom scored a good goal when he got in there. We see him in that position during the week and I always fancy him to score. That strike was about him having composure and it was a great finish.

"We have had a difficult week but we don't want to cry about it. It was a difficult build-up for us but thankfully everything has turned out for good. We of course want Shaun to recover from his calf problem and we send our best wishes to Marko and Matty daily.

"It was a good professional performance from our lads. We are pleased and I thought we worked really, really hard in the build-up to this game. We did our homework and didn't leave any stone unturned. It was very difficult trying to find out the things we needed to find out. At the end of the day, we want to win games. If we can have a run in the FA Cup, I'm sure everyone would be delighted with that."
