Academy | Walsall 1 Shrewsbury Town 1

12 October 2021

Shrewsbury Town draw 1-1 away from home with Walsall in the Youth Alliance Cup.

In the first half of Town's EFL Youth Alliance Cup fixture with Walsall, both teams looked to assert their dominance and control the game. Town struggled to get hold of the ball early on but continued working towards their earlier set standards.

Walsall had limited chances over the course of the game but Salop were guilty of not taking theirs. The in-form Louis Lloyd came close to giving Salop the lead in the latter stages of the first 45, rattling the bar from a Jenson Cooper cross.

The second half started in sloppy fashion with Town switching off from a throw-in. Walsall capitalised and worked the ball into the box well and managed to take the lead with a deserved header.

Despite the set-back, Salop's youngsters reacted positively and leveled through Josh Barlow with the midfielder neatly slotting into the bottom corner of the net. Town created multiple key chances which could have given Town progression in the competition but will now have to compete again in the group stages.
