Steve Cotterill reflects on Town's win over Cambridge United

Steve Cotterill reflects on Town's 4-1 Sky Bet League One win over Cambridge United.

A memorable afternoon in Shropshire, Steve Cotterill's men secured an emphatic 4-1 win over visitors Cambridge United.

Despite the away side pulling level in the second half, Ryan Bowman's hat-trick and Luke Leahy's late winner ensured all three points remained in Shropshire.

Town's manager was delighted with the result and felt his Shrews deserved to end the weekend with the win.

On the result:

"It was a well-deserved victory. In the second half, we took our chances whereas we didn't in the first. We've started other games quite brightly but today we were very good. We were on the front foot against a really dangerous opponent. They've had some very good results this season and I am really pleased for our boys.

"The boys are signing Ryan's match ball now for him. I had a chat with Ryan and Dan Udoh in the week and I thought they lead the line very well. Whilst Ryan will get the plaudits today, I thought Dan Udoh was outstanding.

"They boys were in there talking about it being the perfect hat-trick. We don't care how they go in, it could have gone in off his knee three times for all I care. It was a nice hat-trick for him and he took all three very well. We need to see more of that from him. That's the Ryan Bowman I signed. He's had a couple of really tough weeks so we are really pleased for him.

"With their goal, you could have any goalkeeper in there and they wouldn't have saved that. I don't know how many goals he's scored during his career like that but if he's scored any better, I wouldn't mind seeing them. It was an absolute peach of a finish.

"At the end of the day, the scoreline was deserved anyway from our first half supremacy. We had lots of efforts and nine or ten of them were on target - that's what pleased me most. We want to make sure our home form is good and we've managed to pick up some good results at home. We need to make sure we start getting those results away from home.

"Cambridge are a good team, they're hard-working, they're honest and have some good players. The games I've watched this season, Cambridge have made it very difficult for the opposition. They will still make it tough for any team they play and it was a really good win from our boys today."
