Steve Cotterill reflects on Town's loss against Accrington Stanley

Steve Cotterill reflects on Town's 1-0 Sky Bet League One loss at the Wham Stadium.

Shrewsbury Town's return to Sky Bet League One action saw Steve Cotterill's men take on Accrington Stanley at the Wham Stadium.

The away fixture with John Coleman's team ultimately ended in disappointment for Salop as the home side secured a 1-0 win.

Town's Manager Steve Cotterill was disappointed with the result and felt the Salop reaction to Accrington Stanley's bright start proved costly.

On the result:

"After they scored the goal, we were the better team. I thought we were the better team in the second-half. If the keeper doesn't make the save from Tom Bloxham's effort and we get back in early, we could have gone on to win the game.

"For the goal, we had a couple of opportunities to stop the cross and blocking that channel before the ball gets in there. Even when the ball got there, Marko made a great save but we have to make sure we react quicker than them. We didn't react quick enough and that's why the ball ended up in the back of our net.

"Five minutes later, we had a similar shot but they got in for the clearance on the goal-line. They definitely started brighter than us and were first to every second ball - that changed after the goal. We did everything in the second-half, apart from score the goal. There were definitely chances in there that we need to take. Accrington didn't have many more chances than us today and they've gone on to win the game 1-0. We've created far more chances this season than we did last season.

"It's always a hostile atmosphere here with a tight, compact crowd. Accrington fans get behind their team and make it difficult for you. In the second-half, we took the game to Accrington and not many teams do that. We need our lads to play a full positive 90 minutes instead of giving other teams opportunities in games. We gave them a leg-up in the first 20 minutes because we didn't start the game brightly."
