12 young players make Town debuts

31 August 2022

12 young Shrewsbury Town players made their competitive first-team debut last night in our Papa John's Trophy game against Wolverhampton Wanderers under-21s

Kade Craig: The left-sided defender is part of Steve Cotterill's first team and played occasionally in pre-season. He appeared on the bench last season and this season but this was his first professional appearance for Salop. He played the full game.

Josh Barlow: The central midfielder is part of Steve Cotterill's first team. He appeared on the bench last season and this season but this was his first professional appearance for Salop. He played the full game as a defensive midfielder.

Declan Hutchings: Hutchings can play both in midfield and as a centre-back. He is a second-year scholar and trained regularly with the first team towards the end of last season.

Nana Owusu: Owusu is a right-back by trade but can play anywhere across the backline and the right side. Like Hutchings, Owusu is a second-year scholar who trained regularly with the first team towards the end of last season.

Dennis Antal: Antal is a second-year scholar who can play in any attacking position but is an attacking midfielder by trade. He scored at Montgomery Waters Meadow earlier this year when the under-18s played a behind-closed-doors friendly against Burton under-18s.

Harvey Watts: This is Harvey Watts' first year with Salop's academy. He looked bright in the 33 minutes he played last night as a dynamic right midfielder however, had to be substituted after injury.

Travis Hernes: First-year scholar, Travis Hernes, scored Shrewsbury's goal last night with a low-driven shot into the bottom left-hand corner from outside the box. He netted just nine minutes after coming onto the pitch.

Jude Collins: Collins is a first-year scholar who played as a left midfielder last night. The 16-year-old played an hour of football and also looked bright on the wing.

Josh Bailey: Bailey is a second-year scholar who trained regularly with the first team towards the end of last season. The left-back played 90 minutes last night.

Harvey Kirby-Moore: Kirby-Moore played occasionally for the under-18s towards the end of last season as an under-16. He is a first-year scholar and played 30 minutes at the Meadow last night.

Theo Knight: Theo Knight is a second-year scholar who can play in most attacking positions. He also played 30 minutes in yesterday's game.

Kelechi Etienne: Etienne is a second-year scholar who can play in most attacking positions. He came on for the injured Harvey Watts just after the half-hour mark last night.
