George Nurse previews tomorrow's trip to Wycombe Wanderers

12 August 2022

Shrewsbury Town's left-wing-back, George Nurse, spoke to the media ahead of this weekend's match with Wycombe Wanderers.

Nurse made 53 appearances for Town last season and has featured in every match so far this season.

While he's played the most minutes on the pitch, he's still waiting for his first goal after cracking the woodwork away at Morecambe on the opening day.

Nurse discussed tomorrow's game, the Carabao Cup victory and start to the season

On Wycombe:

"I'm really looking forward to it. We look forward to every game, to go out there and play. We're coming off a good win on Tuesday which has given us confidence so we're looking forward to it.

"I think everyone knows what to expect from Wycombe. They're one of those teams that battle and fight so we've got to stand up to that and try and play our game as well."

On the Carabao Cup victory:

"We got two things done in that game: our first win and scoring goals. We're really pleased with that and it will give us confidence on Saturday."

On the start to the season:

"I think it's been a good start to the season even though we haven't won yet in the league. We got that draw in the first game of the season and we've got lots of new players so it may take a few games but I think we will get up and running soon and I think it's going to start falling into place."

On the new boys:

"They've settled in really well and everyone's been getting on really well. I think that's a credit to the boys from last season. I think we've made it easy for the boys to integrate into the group and they're all doing really well. They've all got their own strengths and I'm sure we'll see them through the season."

On scoring goals:

"It's something I need to bring to my game. If I'm going to be playing wing-back this season I need to score a few goals if I can and get more assists. It's coming but I've just got to wait for it.

On playing left-wing-back:

"I'm really enjoying it. It's a bit of a change because I need to switch to a more attacking mindset - although there are defensive duties as well - I'm really enjoying it so far and hopefully, I can continue it."

On Dan Udoh:

"It's brilliant to have him back. Everyone knows what Dan brings. He brings goals and he brings running up top and we need that. I think it's brilliant for him to get himself a goal and yeah, it's just really good to have him back."
