Jordan Shipley looks back on yesterday's win over Carlisle

10 August 2022

Jordan Shipley spoke to the press after Shrewsbury won 3-2 against Carlisle United in the Carabao Cup at the Montgomery Waters Meadow last night.

The versatile midfielder has played in every game for the Salop this season and made his competitive debut on the opening day at Morecambe.

Shipley spoke about his thoughts on the game, the goal contributions coming from all areas of the pitch, how he is settling in at Salop, playing at left-wing-back and having versatility in the squad.

Thoughts on the game:

“Wneeded a win, and I'm happy thawe got ieven thougit was a bit scrappy towards the end,      buwe got three goals and we'rinto the nexround.

“It is massive for us (to get the win) coming off the back of a defeat last Saturday, the dressing room rallied together and now we're looking to kick on going onto Saturday when we play Wycombe away. It will be a tough game but we're looking forward to it.”

Goal contributions from all over the field:

“That’s what we're looking for now, the defenders to chip in from set pieces if they can and I had a couple of shots today that got blocked - and one that went way over the bar - but you know we're looking to score from all over the pitch and help the forwards as much as we can.”

Settling into the team:

“The lads are a great bunch and have made me feel welcome from the get-go, and we we're all looking forward to the season.”

Playing left-wing-back:

“I played there three times last year for Coventry, so I know how to play the position. It is not my preferred position but the gaffer knows if a job needs to be done there, I will play there and give it my all.”

Having versatility in the squad:

“It's good to be versatile, and I know a lot of our players can play different positions, such as Rekeil Pyke playing right wing-back. You know that’s not a position he is used to, but I thought he played very well tonight.”

Next opponents in the Carabao Cup:

“We will take anyone. We're all looking forward to it and we will come here or go away and we will look to win.
