Post Bolton | Christian Saydee

10 December 2022

Goalscorer Christian Saydee spoke to the media following our last-gasp win over Bolton.

An outstanding stoppage-time header from Chey Dunkley saw Town secure a thrilling 3-2 win over Ian Evatt's side.

We took the lead after just two minutes when Rob Street produced an excellent finish to net his first Shrewsbury goal.

But a brace from Dion Charles ensured the Trotters were 2-1 up with just 19 minutes remaining.

Christian, though, produced a brilliant close-range finish to draw us level. And we then went on to win it thanks to Dunkley's brilliant late header.

Speaking post-match, Christian discussed the game as well as both him and Rob getting on the scoresheet.

And the striker also spoke about how much he is enjoying life at Town following his arrival from Bournemouth.

ON THE GAME:

“We started quick, they came back and scored the two goals.

"But it was the belief of the last couple of weeks, we have been good as a team and have stuck together, and I think we showed that on the pitch today.”

“It was a brilliant response. The whole week everybody has been buzzing and doing really well.

"The gaffer has been nailing it into us that we have got to keep getting wins, and our form can’t keep going up and down, so we're happy and were just getting started.”

ON ROB STREET'S GOAL:

“I'm so happy for Streety. In training he is always putting the ball in the back of the net -  we have just been waiting for him to score.

"The gaffer in the changing room before the game said he was going to score today, and one minute in he scores, so it's brilliant.”

ON HIS GOAL:

“When the ball has come in, obviously with Dunks (Chey Dunkley) - he was always going to get up and try and win the header, and normally he does.

"Where he has just headed it, I thought I was going to kick it off the keeper, and it dropped straight to me so I just hit it as hard as I could.

"I didn’t really see where it went I just hit it and then I heard everyone screaming."

ON HIM AND ROB PLAYING WELL BUT NOT SCORING IN RECENT WEEKS:

“As a striker, it’s always tough when you’re not scoring, your confidence drops sometimes.

"I think with this team, there always pushing you and letting you know that you are still doing a lot for the team, so the goals from me and Streety today really helped our confidence.”

“I am not surprised he scored, he is always active in the box, and once that ball went in the air, there was only one person winning it.”

ON SECURING THE THIRD WIN IN A ROW:

“Hopefully, we can just build from this now and move onto next week and hopefully just keep getting the wins in.”

ON LIFE AT SHREWSBURY:

“I like it a lot, you know, just being here.

"I have gelled well with everyone, it's like I have been here for a long time.

"Everyone has just shown me, Streety and Winny (Carl Winchester) love so it’s just brilliant and I know I am in a good place.”
