Shrewsbury Town working to support food banks this Christmas

9 December 2022

Shrewsbury Town are working alongside two food schemes to help people in need this Christmas.

Everyone at the club understands the festive period is tough for families on low incomes - particularly during a cost of living crisis that has seen fuel and food prices soar.

To help families and children in the local area, we have teamed up with two projects working to support people this Christmas.

Each year, the Barnabas Community Project runs a campaign to provide Christmas dinners and gifts for households in Shrewsbury and the surrounding area.

Alongside food items ideal for a Christmas dinner, the food bank is also low on other essential products.

They include: washing powder, male toiletries, tinned main meals, rice, shampoo, anti-bacterial spray, washing up liquid, UHT milk and toilet paper.

Alonside the Barnabas Community Project, we are also supporting the Holiday, Activity and Food Programme (HAF) which is in operation in both Shrewsbury and Ludlow.

The scheme aims to provide youngsters with free activities and food throughout the school break.

Funded by Shropshire Council, the HAF programme allows children in receipt of free school meals in the county to gain access to multi-sport activities while they also receive a hot nutritious meal each day.

Continuing our partnership with Tuffins Supermarket, the club will be providing a Christmas hamper at the end of the programme that each child can take home for their family.

The hamper will contain everything families need for a Christmas dinner, without the turkey.

We are also asking our Shrewsbury Town family to come together and donate gifts so that the children can pick, wrap, and gift their loved ones a present.

Whether it’s a gift set or some chocolate -all donations are very much appreciated and will help to make someone’s Christmas extra special.

We are asking our fans who can afford it to donate food and other essential items when they head to Montgomery Waters Meadow for our game against Bolton tomorrow - our last home match before Christmas.

A container has been placed in the main reception at the stadium where items can be donated. Donations can also be dropped off at the Foundation Building at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

Thank you for your generosity.
