Shrewsbury Town Under-18s lost narrowly away at league leaders Preston North End Under-18s in the EFL Youth Alliance League last Saturday.
Town started off strongly and dominated the first 20-25 minutes of play by controlling possession and territory on the pitch. They were creating chances but were struggling to get a clear sight of the goal due to Preston's well-structured defence.
Towards the end of the first half, the hosts started to edge their way back into the game but they were unable to trouble Shrewsbury's defence and goalkeeper.
After a half with limited chances, Preston's foothold in the game increased and they began working up some good chances from counter-attacks and they eventually netted the only goal of the game from a tight angle.
Town responded well to the goal and worked tirelessly to press and regain the ball but they just lacked that cutting edge in the final third. Ultimately, Preston did well to limit Town's chances and showed why they're doing well in the league.
