Goalscorer Matthew Pennington reflects on today's victory over Sheffield Wednesday at Montgomery Waters Meadow.
The centre-back's second goal of the season proved descisive as Shrewsbury Town ran out 1-0 winners on Sunday afternoon.
Pennington rose highest to head home Luke Leahy's corner kick just before half time and defended resolutely to help Salop record their third clean sheet in a row.
Speaking after the game, Pennington described his goal and looked ahead to next weekend's FA Cup Third Round tie away at Liverpool.
On the fixture:
"It doesn't get much better than a goal and a clean sheet and all the fans here as well, so I'm glad we could send them home with a smile on their faces. It was brillliant, it was a big game and we started the new year off well. They're a really good side and they've got some quality players, but I thought we nullified them well and defended well when we had to in the second half, and we've got three points which is the main thing.
"I feel like I should've scored a few this season but I've had a couple disallowed, I've been knocking on the door with a few headers and found myself in the area and thankfully it went in the back of the net. I enjoyed that one for sure. Like I said, I feel like I should've scored a few more and I've had chances so hopefully I can build on that.
"We couldn't get many clean sheets at the start of the season, it was a bit illusive for us, but I feel like we're more solid now, more together, we're putting our bodies on the line, there's a great team spirit, and hopefully we can keep going.
"It's topped off a really good week for us. We were disappointed not to get the win on Wednesday against Accrington, but it was a really good point in the end after backing it up with a win today. A positive week, great start to the new year and I'm really happy."
On Liverpool:
"I'm excited for it. I've got a lot of family coming myself because it's local so yeah, it should be a good occasion for the fans, for the club and who knows, why not try and get an upset? It's a really good ground to go and play at so yeah, I'm looking forward to it."
