First Interview | Aiden O'Brien

3 July 2022

We sat down with Shrewsbury Town’s most recent signing, Aiden O’Brien, to discuss his move to Montgomery Waters Meadow.

On the move:

“I’m absolutely delighted [to get this deal over the line]. I’ve come in and the manager’s been brilliant with me from the off, the players have been brilliant and the staff have been brilliant too. I’m just absolutely buzzing to be here.”

On the hotel in Spain:

“It’s brilliant, I’m just getting to know my surroundings with the boys and the staff and the manager; they’ve been absolutely outstanding. The hotel is brilliant and the staff here are good. The weather is lovely but I’m not sure I’m enjoying that as you can probably tell by my face! Everyone has been brilliant and I just can’t wait to get the games started.”

On who in the squad he’s played with before:

“[I’ve played with] Tom Flanagan, we were obviously at Sunderland together. I’ve played against a few of the lads before too.”

On himself as a player:

“I like to work hard first and foremost. On top of that I like to be creative and score goals, I like to be creative and sniff out goals; that’s something I enjoy in football.

“I would say I’m an instinctive forward, someone who is always trying to sniff out opportunities. Timing is a big thing for me, I’m always trying to get across defenders and make it hard for them – make it so they can’t see me – so I’m not easy to mark. If a ball is coming to me in the box then I want to tap it in. That’s the kind of striker I am, I can cut in and hit it but most of my goals come through instinctive striking movements and timings in and around the area.”

On his aims for next season:

“I obviously want to score as many goals as I can and work hard for the team. I just want to be the best Aiden O’Brien I can be.”
