Steve Cotterill previews tomorrow's game at home to Oxford United

11 March 2022

Shrewsbury Town boss Steve Cotterill spoke to the media ahead of tomorrow’s game with Oxford United.

Town have had a full week to prepare and recover for the fixture after a run of Tuesday night games and come into this one off the back of a great performance away at Cambridge United last weekend.

Oxford’s last run out was at home to Burton Albion and they put four past the Brewers at the Kassam Stadium, conceding one in return.

Cotterill looked ahead to the fixture and provided an update on the COVID situation within the first team.

On the game:

“It’s another game we’re looking forward to. We like playing at home so yeah, just another good fixture against a good team who have played very well this season. [They’ve] got a good squad there – a fair bit of investment has gone into that squad – but yeah, it’s a good one.

“[I’ve seen] the games we normally watch but I haven’t seen anything in the games I watched that I don’t already know.

"They’ve [Shrewsbury's players] been working on the training ground but I suppose it’s been a week for a bit of mental rest if you know what I mean. We’re entering a week now where we have a three-game week – we know that and we’ve had plenty of them this season – and hopefully, the rest and recuperation we’ve done this week stands them in good stead for the week ahead.”

On the COVID situation at the club:

“They’re [Aaron Wilbraham and Ben Cirne] in this morning so that’s been a bonus. It’s been a long week because we’ve been a couple of men down and we’re another man down now as well because Davy [David Longwell] hasn’t been in all week either but it's the first time this week that we’ve been able to fill most of the chairs in the office if that makes sense. We’ve had quite a few down but they’re all okay now.

“We have [been able to prepare as normal], it’s just been a bit busier for me! That’s fine though, it’s more about the lads’ health and now Alby’s back today, Ben’s back today, and hopefully given another 24 hours Davy will be right for the game tomorrow.”
