Steve Cotterill previews Town's trip to face Cambridge United

4 March 2022

Shrewsbury Town boss Steve Cotterill spoke to the media ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Cambridgeshire to face Cambridge United at the Abbey Stadium.

Town head into the fixture off the back of a fantastic performance against league leaders Rotherham United on Tuesday night, where they had to settle for a point.

Cambridge travelled to Adams Park to face Wycombe Wanderers that same evening and suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Chairboys.

Cotterill discussed his side’s preparation for the game and also commented on George Nurse winning the Player of the Month award for February.

On the game:

“We’re looking forward to it, obviously. The last couple of games have been really good, we’ve played really well in them and we’re looking forward to this one as well. It should be a good game. [I’ve seen] a fair bit of them. I finished watching them yesterday and they’re a good team, good spirit, they’ve got some really good players and it’s just a game we’re looking forward to. We know they’ve done well this year; they’ve done very well in their first year up. I always think it’s easier for teams on their first year up so we know that it’s going to be a difficult game and no change with the journey on the bus, no change there that’s for sure!

“We’ll finish that [the preparation] off this morning – we’re training a little bit earlier today – and then we’ll get ourselves on the road so yeah, all good and everybody’s okay.”

On George Nurse winning Player of the Month:

“I think he could’ve won it for next month as well if his shot had gone in the other night! I think he’s played very well and as I said before, I think he’ll be a good signing for the football club; he’s a good age and yeah, he deserves it. There’s quite a few who could deserve it as well for their performances over the last month so I’m sure this will have been a tough one for the fans to choose.”
