Pre Oxford United | Jordan Shipley

9 November 2022

Jordan Shipley spoke to the press ahead of this evening's game against Oxford United at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

The 25-year-old joined the club early in the summer of 2022 after leaving his boyhood club, Coventry City.

Since he joined the ranks of Steve Cotterill's squad, 'Shipperz' has picked up four goals and two assists while mostly playing as a left-wing-back.

Speaking to the press, he discussed his season so far, how the boss has influenced him since he arrived and his role as a wing-back.

On his season so far:
"It has been really good, I'm playing games consistently which is why I came to the club. It's a new role at wing-back after what happened to Nursey (George Nurse). I'm enjoying it, we know we can play better but it is all about getting the three points."

On adapting to wing-back:
"I am enjoying it, I have played there a few times before for Coventry. To play there consistently throughout this season is going to be good and I'm enjoying it. There isn't much change, it is mainly down the left rather than being in the middle of midfield. I have played there and I know it's a bit relentless at times."

On the mood in the camp:
"Team morale is good. Everyone gets on well and they all want to do well for each other. We are going into these next few games and we are going to need that team spirit, especially tomorrow night."

On injuries:
"It's not nice what has happened to Dan (Udoh) and George (Nurse) but then you have Julien (Dacosta) and Aiden (O'Brien) as well it's not great. But as a team, we know we have to pick ourselves up and go again because this league is relentless and we have to keep going."

On the influence of Steve Cotterill:
"He is good and he has helped me a lot; he has helped me adapt to a new role. I'm enjoying playing under him. He's great and can be tough here and there, but it's football - and everyone wants to do well so you need that."

Linking up with Tom Bayliss:
"I have known Tom for ages so it is nice to come here together and play the football that we can. Scoring goals and setting each other up, it's always nice to have a player of his ability in the team."

On goals:
"I have four now I think, but my target is still double figures, and I won't be happy until I get there."
