Shrewsbury Town Foundation | Gala Dinner

23 November 2022

Shrewsbury Town Foundation held its annual gala dinner last week - with the event raising £14,686.

Hundreds of people headed to Montgomery Waters Meadow on Friday evening to celebrate the outstanding work the charity has done over the past 12 months.

As well as enjoying a three-course meal, those in attendance watched videos featuring four people the foundation has helped over the past 12 months.

They included youngster Zac who - despite living with Cerebral Palsy - flourished on the foundation's ShrewsAbility sessions and is now studying to be a coach on our coaches’ academy programme.

You can watch Zac's story here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTPYrrrAPrI

Another story shared on the night was that of brothers Logan and Corey.

Growing up, the pair struggled to get on due to social, emotional and mental health conditions including ADHD.

However, since joining the foundation's coaching sessions, their relationship has blossomed and they are now both passionate about working towards a career in football.

The final story on the night focused on Dave who was first referred to the foundation by his GP after suffering with his mental health.

Speaking openly about his experience, Dave says he wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for the support the foundation has given him.

Now, though, he is thriving and has joined us as a volunteer to ensure he can help others.

After watching those inspirational stories, an auction then took place at the gala dinner where a host of top prizes were won - with all the proceeds going into the foundation.

The evening then closed with music from Dirty Rockin' Scoundrels.

James Edwards, CEO of the Shrewsbury Town Foundation, said: "Our annual gala dinner is always a special night, not just because of the vital funds we raise but also the awareness we raise of the foundation's fantastic work.

"I am not sure you can put a value on people spreading the message of the clubs' community work far and wide.

"Community is at the heart of Shrewsbury Town Football Club and a special thanks must go to the staff both those that organised the evening and those that continue to support the community throughout the year.

"A special thank you also needs to go to Reclaim Tax who kindly sponsored the evening."
