Jordan Shipley | Post Forest Green Rovers

4 September 2022

Jordan Shipley spoke to the press following Shrewsbury's 2-0 win at Forest Green Rovers.

The 24-year-old put in an outstanding performance at The New Lawn that saw him grab both a goal and an assist.

Rekeil Pyke was the other man on target in Gloucestershire with his 10th-minute opener his first league goal for the club.

ON THE TEAM PERFORMANCE:

"It was a good game. We came into it knowing we needed to win.

"Coming to these grounds, we had to dig it out and going 1-0 up helped us.

"We talked about that in the dressing room before the game, about starting on the front foot and getting ourselves a goal ahead if we can."

ON HIS ASSIST:

"It was a long ball up to Bowy (Bowman), and I saw the defender go inside, and I had all the space.

"It was a good set-up from Bowman, and I just fizzed it across and Pikey (Pyke) was there so credit to him because he's been class since we came back for this season.

"I'm really chuffed for him to get his first (league) goal."

ON HIS GOAL:

"I popped inside and then saw Tom (Bayliss) run off the back.

"I played a one-two at first, I thought he played a touch extra and didn't think it would come through, but he slipped it through the legs and then it was just up to me to put it around the keeper.

"We have good chemistry - Tom and me.

"Obviously back in the day, we did some similar stuff at Coventry, so it's nice to get off and running now."

ON PLAYING ON THE LEFT WING:

"It was good. I knew where I had to press and where I had to be, but it was nice to be that far forward and attack, which I like to do.

"I'm happy that we managed to get the 2-0 win and the three points."

ON NEW ADDITIONS ROB STREET, CHRISTIAN SAYDEE AND CARL WINCHESTER:

"All the lads have come in and it's like they have been here the whole time.

"They have taken to it naturally and you saw when they came on they affected the game.

"Christian Saydee is a strong boy who gets his body in, Rob Street grafts a lot, and Carl Winchester does the same.

"They made an impact and got us up the pitch."

ON TEAM BONDING:

"We all had our first training session together on Friday and they settled in immediately.

"We made them sing on Friday night and there were a few dodgy performances, but I'm glad they can kick a ball and not sing.

"There were no good singing performances - Saydee can get really high pitched as I think he sang Alicia Keys, so I think it's a bit of a dodgy song to sing, but they're a good bunch."
