Shrewsbury add forward Christian Saydee to their ranks

1 September 2022

Boss Steve Cotterill has added exciting striking prospect Christian Saydee to his squad on deadline day.

The striker, who is our second deadline day capture following the arrival of fellow forward Rob Street, has joined on loan until the end of the season.

Town beat off competition from a host of clubs to land the talented frontman who played for Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup clash against Norwich earlier this campaign. He played the full 90 minutes and scored his penalty in that fixture.

Saydee spent seven-and-a-half years in Reading's academy before joining Bournemouth at the age of 16. He made a bright start to the 2018/19 season and bagged 18 goals and 18 assists before picking up an injury.

He progressed into the Cherries' under-21s team and had a six-week loan spell at Weymouth in early 2021.

The following July, he got his first senior goal and assist after contributing to the fourth and fifth goals in Bournemouth's 5-0 win over MK Dons in the Carabao Cup.

He then made his EFL debut as a Cherries substitute at the start of last season and went on to gain further experience when he signed on loan for Burton Albion. The forward made 18 appearances in League One during his switch to the Pirelli Stadium.
