Smithy's Bar reopens after renovations

13 September 2022

Shrewsbury Town are pleased to announce the popular Smithy’s Bar will be open ahead of our game against Exeter tonight.

The bar, which is based at the side of Montgomery Waters Meadow in the Community Football Hub, has undergone an extensive refurbishment over the past few months in partnership with Carlsberg.

Shrewsbury decided to renovate Smithy’s following a consultation with our supporters.

The bar – which is now card only - is more comfortable and offers increased space. Speed of service has also been improved while fans of Guinness can buy the drink on tap.

Steve Burnside, facilities manager at Shrewsbury Town, said:

“The driving force behind the renovation of Smithy’s bar has always been our supporters.

“Our priority was to enhance the matchday experience; creating a social hive of activity within the supporters bar.

“Our goal was to make the area more comfortable, improve the speed of service for customers and create a larger, more versatile space for non-match days.

“We are extremely excited to be able to welcome our fans back and cannot wait to show you the work that has been completed.

“We now have a six-metre bar comprising of three beer pumps instead of two and for those who enjoy a pint of Guinness; you will now find this on tap.

“By removing the old reception area and pushing the bar area back to the far wall, we have managed to create a much larger space.

“It was important the bar remained a Shrewsbury Town bar and we have worked hard to create a number of graphics that pay homage to the club's recent history and beyond.

“Over the coming months we will continue to evolve, the area and we hope to be able to display fan memorabilia in the near future.

“A huge thank you goes to Carlsberg for their support and investment into the area as well as a thank you to all of the contractors who worked on the project.

“Our final thank you goes to you, the fans for your patience. We hope you enjoy your new bar.”
