Steve Cotteril says Dan Udoh 'will probably miss the rest of the season'

2 September 2022

Manager Steve Cotterill says Daniel Udoh could miss the rest of the season after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his knee.

The striker sustained the injury during the League One clash at Bristol Rovers last weekend.

Speaking after that game, Cotterill said he feared Udoh had ruptured his ACL – an injury the boss sustained twice in his playing career.

And after being sent for a scan, those fears have been confirmed with Udoh now set to have an operation once the swelling in his knee has gone down.

“It’s not good news about Dan - it’s not good news,” Cotterill said.

“The scan has shown he has torn his cruciate ligament which was my biggest fear last weekend.

“As soon as I looked at him I thought he might be in trouble. He will probably miss the rest of the season which is a huge disappointment for Dan and for us.

“It needs to settle down because there is a bit of swelling in the knee. He’ll probably have an operation on September 10th. That is when he is pencilled in. He’ll have that anterior cruciate reconstructed.”

Cotterill revealed he broke the news about the severity of the injury to Udoh earlier this week.

“I brought him into the office when we got the results - it was just me, him and the physio,” the boss continued.

“He is fine now, but at the time he was very upset. I remember when I did mine, both of them, it’s a real gut-wrenching conversation that somebody has to have with you.

“It’s a huge disappointment. But I said to him he will be looked after and once he gets the operation he has got some great thighs, he’s as strong as anything, he will back.”

Everyone at Shrewsbury Town wishes Dan all the best in his recovery.
