Foundation Feature | Bike2Bolton!

19 April 2023

Seven dedicated Salop fans are taking on a 100-mile challenge from Montgomery Waters Meadow to Bolton Wanderers to raise funds for Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation. The ride will take place on April 21st and 22nd.

The cyclists, who are all keen Salopians, are undertaking this challenge to support the fantastic work of the Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation, a charitable organisation that provides opportunities for the local community to lead healthy and active lifestyles. The funds raised by this event will help the foundation to continue delivering these opportunities to people in the local area.

The ride will start at 10:30am at Montgomery Waters Meadow and the cyclists will make their way towards Bolton Wanderers. The route will take them through some picturesque areas of Shropshire, heading through to Chester as their half-way point.

Speaking about the challenge, one of the riders, Paul Coyne, said:

"I wanted to get involved in the Bike2Bolton challenge in memory of my friend Glyn Price, who took part in last year's cycle to Milton Keynes Dons and did a lot for the foundation and STFC as a whole. Glyn passed away in November last year. He is sorely missed and will be in all of our thoughts as we complete the event.

"I also wanted to do something to raise some money for the foundation and contribute to initiatives that have a positive impact on the local community. The Bike2Bolton event seems like the perfect opportunity to do just that! I’m really looking forward to the challenge and although I’m a bit of a novice when it comes to cycling, I can’t wait to get started on Friday morning!"

The event is being supported by a range of local businesses including Trek Shrewsbury, who are providing bike maintenance support, Budgen Motors who are providing assistance vehicles and Shrewsbury Food Hub, who have made donations to keep the team fed!

The Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation is thrilled that these dedicated cyclists are taking on this challenge to support their work. Jamie Edwards, CEO of Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation, said:

"We are thrilled to have the support of these dedicated Shrewsbury Town fans who are taking on this challenge to raise funds for our foundation. Their commitment and passion for our cause will make a real difference to the lives of local people and we are so grateful for their efforts. "
