Shrewsbury fell to a 6-0 loss at Charlton.
A brace from Miles Leaburn together with goals from Scott Fraser, Albie Morgan and Jes Rak-Sakyi and Macauley Bonne saw Town fall to defeat on a day where nothing went for them - with Tom Flanagan also harshly sent off.
Manager Steve Cotterill opted for a 3-5-2 system for the trip to The Valley, with Rob Street and Christian Saydee the front two.
In midfield, Killian Phillips returned, having missed the last two games after sustaining a concussion at Derby.
Luke Leahy and Carl Winchester accompanied Phillips in the middle of the park, with Jordan Shipley and Taylor Moore as the wing-backs.
Dean Holden's Charlton side went with a 4-3-3 formation with Leaburn in the centre forward position and Rak-Sakyi and Tyreece Campbell out wide.
In what was an even and keenly contested opening 20 minutes, it was Shrewsbury who created the game’s first real opportunity.
Saydee did well to find Phillips on the edge the box – with space then opening up for the midfielder to get his shot away.
But instead of going for goal he looked to slip in Shipley with the ball just getting away from the wing-back before he could shoot.
It was in the 27th minute that the Addicks opened the scoring – with Scott Fraser curing in an outstanding free-kick from 25 yards.
Town looked for an instant reply with Saydee firing straight at Ashley Maynard-Brewer from 20 yards.
The ball was then worked to Shipley in the box who sent a powerful half-volley wide.
But despite Town’s pressure, the hosts went on to double their advantage in the 38th minute.
After referee Robert Madley played an advantage for the home side, they broke quickly up field.
Rak-Sakyi then found Morgan in the box who fired low past Marko Marosi and in.
In additional time at the end of the first half, the Addicks got a third through Rak-Sayki.
The forward produced some smart footwork to enter the box before then poking the ball into the bottom corner.
Town created two chances to pull a goal back early in the second half.
First, Saydee produced a powerful and swerving strike from 25 yards that sailed inches past the post.
Street then cut the ball back to Shipley who also fired narrowly wide from just outside the box.
On the hour mark, though, Charlton got a fourth when Leaburn got on the end of a long, low-driven, ball before arrowing a strike into the bottom corner from 30 yards.
Things then got even worse for Town when a shot hit Flanagan in the box – with referee Robert Madley pointing to the penalty spot and surprisingly giving Flanagan a straight red card.
Leaburn then scored from the spot.
In the 72nd minute, Shrewsbury came close to pulling one back after a melee in the box, but the Charlton defence managed to clear the danger.
But in added on time, Charlton got a sixth when Bonne fired in from close range.
