New signing Kieran Phillips sat down with Salop for his first interview as a Shrewsbury Town player.
The 23-year-old previously worked with Matt Taylor when he was loaned to Walsall in 2021/22. He made 33 appearances in all competitions before moving to Exeter in January 2022. He netted seven times in the campaign.
A product of Everton's academy, Kieran played with both Morgan Feeney and Joe Anderson throughout his time in the under-18s (where he netted 12 goals in 11 U18 Premier League games), under-21s and under-23s, before making the permanent switch to Huddersfield in January 2020 after a successful loan.
Kieran spent the first half of last season on loan at Morecambe where he scored seven goals and got two assists in 20 League One appearances before he returned to the Terriers in January.
Kieran discussed all of the above in his first interview with Salop.
ON SIGNING FOR SHREWSBURY:
"I'm absolutely buzzing to be signed here. I had a long trip up last night but I'm here and ready to go now."
ON MATT TAYLOR:
"He was a massive draw in me coming here. When he first got the job it spiked my interest straight away. I enjoyed working with him at Walsall and when he requested to have me on loan it was at the front of my mind."
ON LAST SEASON FOR HIM:
"I didn't even play half the season so it was a decent return, I was pretty happy with it, but I was disappointed I couldn't continue that on [due to injury] once I hit good form.
"Hopefully this season I can hit those same numbers but carry it on throughout the whole season and get cracking."
ON HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH MORGAN FEENEY AND JOE ANDERSON:
"Morgan was the year above me and Joe was the year below me so I spent a lot of time with them and I know them really well.
"I've met all the other lads today and they're all great. I'm sure we'll get along well."
ON HOW THE MOVE CAME ABOUT:
"We weren't too sure if I was going to be coming out (on loan) or what was going to happen. It then started getting there in the last couple of weeks and then yesterday it took a much quicker turn!
"Yep (I got here at 3:30 this morning), I'm straight into training today."
ON HIS AIMS FOR THE MOVE:
"Score as many goals as possible, help the lads out and win as many games as we can."
ON WHAT FANS CAN EXPECT TO SEE FROM HIM ON THE PITCH:
"(I'm) fast, a good finisher, I put myself about and work hard for the team. That's me in a nutshell really.
"I'm good on the ball I'd like to say. I might throw a few skills in there if you're lucky!
"Getting in behind and putting the ball in the back of the net is the main thing so hopefully fans will like that."
ON HIS NEXT STEPS:
"To get out there and get ready for the weekend!"
