Shrewsbury Town will celebrate Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign when we welcome Portsmouth to the Croud Meadow on Saturday.
For the last 10 years, the Rainbow Laces initiative has been leading the way when it comes to LGBTQ+ inclusion in sport.
Shrewsbury Town is proud that we are one of the clubs that first got behind the campaign a decade ago.
Huge progress has been made in that time but there is still more to do for LGBTQ+ people to feel truly represented and included in our game.
This weekend we will continue to show our support throughout our match against Portsmouth with a number of players - including rainbow laces ambassador Elliott Bennett, wearing the laces.
The corner flags will also have rainbow flags while in the build-up to the game, we will be publishing interviews with Elliott Bennett and Proud Salopians founder Andy Garden.
The theme for this year's Rainbow Laces campaign is ‘Let’s Lace Up to Keep It Up’.
This looks at how sport has become more inclusive over the last decade, while also highlighting the need for ongoing work to ensure sport is a safe space for members of the LGBTQ+ community.
