Pre Portsmouth | Matt Taylor

14 December 2023

Boss Matt Taylor met with the media ahead of our League One clash against Portsmouth.

Town welcome John Mousinho's side to the Croud Meadow on Saturday - with the visitors currently sitting top of the table.

Salop, though, are also in good form with Matt's side unbeaten in their last four. We have also won six of our last seven home games.

Speaking to the assembled media, the boss discussed his time at Portsmouth - where he enjoyed six happy years as a player.

And he also gave an update on the fitness of Jason Sraha as well as saying how pleased he was to see Taylor Parry and Morgan Feeney return from injury for the victory at Wycombe.

On the Portsmouth game, Matt said: "It will be a battle. They are top of the league and a really good team. They are a really good team because they do the basics well.

“It’s going to be a tough game for us but we are in a decent vain of form ourselves.

“We are back at home for the first time in a few weeks which is positive and I’m very much looking forward to it.

“I spent six-and-a-half wonderful years there at a time when the club went through its richest vain of form in recent history.

“To be part of that was obviously wonderful for me. It was a big part of my footballing journey.

“I went to watch them on Monday night against Bolton. What a spectacle for League One football. The game was unbelievable.

“Portsmouth came out on top so we know how difficult a game it will be.

“They are very structured. They have got a very good, young, manager in charge who has a clear identity when it comes to how he wants to play.

“Each and every one of their players knows what their roles and responsibilities are.

“But we are at home. In front of our fans and our home form is really good. It’s going to be a tough game for them.

“It will be an afternoon where we have to take our opportunities when we create them because we know what strengths Portsmouth hold.

“And we also know some areas which we can try and exploit. But first and foremost, I will be asking my players for 100 per cent effort.

“That is what I ask every week and that is something I think we are really doing well at the moment. We are doing it for each other and that is massively powerful.

“It will be nice to see some people who I haven’t seen for a long time at Portsmouth.

“But that’s in the past and what we do now is look forward to a game that we want to win.”
