Goals came in both halves for Town, with the first being converted by Wycombe defender Jordan Willis after some fantastic work by Christian Saydee, who provided an excellent low-driven cross that Willis turned into his own net.

The second came in the 86th minute through Rekeil Pyke, whose first attempt was saved by Wycombe's number one, Max Stryjek, but the substitute tapped home from close range after picking up the rebound.

In what was Town's dedicated Football V Homophobia fixture, Steve Cotterill opted for two changes to the team that narrowly lost 1-0 to Accrington Stanley last weekend.

Taylor Moore replaced Elliott Bennett in the right wing-back role, and Carl Winchester made way for Tom Bayliss in the centre of midfield.

Town set up in a 3-5-2 system with Killian Phillips, Tom Bayliss and Luke Leahy sitting behind Christian Saydee and Ryan Bowman, who lead the line.

Wycombe made the trip to Shropshire under the new management of Matt Bloomfield, who took the reigns earlier this week after club legend Gareth Ainsworth departed for QPR.

Bloomfield also went with a 3-5-2 formation that saw Sam Vokes linking up with Brandon Hanlan in the centre-forward position.

Town made a lively start to proceedings and came close to taking the lead in the fifth minute.

A Bayliss corner was met by Chey Dunkley at the back post, but his header sailed narrowly wide.

Wycombe combined well out wide in the 12th minute, with the ball reaching Hanlan on the edge of the box.

The striker then drove inside to get touch-tight with the byline before driving a shot into the side netting.

In the 20th minute, Wycombe had another opportunity to break the deadlock when Garath McCleary received a cross from the right.

The winger took the ball down calmly in the box before hitting a powerful shot toward the bottom left corner, but Marosi managed to get down and save with ease.

It was Shrewsbury who went on to open the scoring just past the half-hour mark, thanks to some outstanding work from Saydee.

The striker collected the ball wide on the right before battling his way past two men and whipping a wonderful cross right into the danger area.

That delivery looked set to be tapped in by Ryan Bowman. But Willis beat him to it, with the defender turning the ball past Stryjek and into his own net.

Wycombe came close to getting back on terms just before the break.

Jordan Obita stood over a free-kick wide on the right, with everyone in the stadium expecting a cross.

But the left wing-back opted to shoot, with Marosi getting across his goal and making a smart stop to keep the ball out.

Just after the break, McCleary played the ball out to Wheeler on the right, who took a touch and sent a floating cross into the danger zone.

The ball reached Hanlan, who tried to get the ball under control, but Wycombe's number 18 skewed it over the bar.

Shrewsbury were peppering the Wycombe box with corners early in the second half, and Town came close to doubling their lead in the 56th minute.

Bayliss delivered the ball to the back post, where Pennington rose highest and headed it back across the goal to Town's number 20, who picked the ball up inside the box.

The midfielder let fly from close range, but the ball ricocheted off a Wycombe body before the ball fell to Saydee, who couldn't quite get enough on the ball to turn it home.

Just past the hour mark, Moore pushed forward and delivered a beautiful cross to Bowman inside the box.

The Salop number nine had his back to the goal and attempted an overhead kick but his effort went over.

Wycombe had an opportunity to pull level in the 77th minute when Chem Campbell picked up the ball out wide.

The substitute used some fancy footwork to breach the Town box and get a powerful shot away, but Marosi was on hand to palm it clear with ease.

With minutes remaining, Shipley was able to win the ball high up the pitch and play a through ball into Pyke in the 86th minute.

The substitute, who had only been on the pitch for 90 seconds, saw his first attempt saved by Stryjek but the rebound fell back to Town's number 15 for him to slot home and double the lead.

Wycombe was looking to get a consolation goal in the final minutes, but Town's defence remained resilient to claim a dominant 2-0 win over play-off competitors Wycombe.
