First Interview | Tunmise Sobowale

13 July 2023

Tunmise Sobowale sat down with Salop after making the move from Waterford for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old has put pen to paper on a one-year deal with an option in the club's favour.

A versatile player, Tunmise has featured as a right wing-back, centre back and as a central midfielder whilst playing for Waterford in the League of Ireland First Division. He played 19 times and scored once.

'T' discussed his most recent season, how he's settling in at his new club and what fans can expect from him on the pitch.

SPEAKING AFTER SIGNING, TUNMISE SAID:

"I'm over the moon. I'm happy to be here.

"I trained this morning and I'm feeling very good.

"I was looking at the club when my agent brought it to me. I saw a real family vibe and saw they were playing some good football and I thought to myself 'I can get in here, get some games and do well for myself and for the club that'd be good.'

"I'm powerful, fast, direct going forward, passionate about the game and about doing well for the club."

ON HIS MOST RECENT SEASON AT WATERFORD:

“It was a good run of games that we had when we were playing. [I] scored a goal that I was happy about [but the] most important thing for me was just to play well for myself and the club which I thought I did.

"Obviously Waterford is my home and I grew up there so just putting the jersey on was something I was very proud of.

"I enjoyed my time there as a footballer. Yeah, [I] managed to score a goal and I hope to score more as I’m here."

ON THE ATTACKING SIDE OF HIS GAME:

“I would say it’s direct, definitely, with a lot of power and pace.

"I can go either side, [I have] a bit of flare as well when my confidence is high.

"I definitely get the crowd on their feet anyway."

ON HIS VERSATILITY:

“I grew up playing centre midfield So I would say that’s where I got my confidence on the ball.

"I can also play right back and also wing-back. They are currently the positions I play in but at the moment I’m trying to hone my skills as a right wing-back and just focus on positioning and stuff like that and pushing on.”

ON HIS TIME AT SHREWSBURY SO FAR:

“The lads have been good! As soon as I walked in the door they are very friendly, smiles all around.

"I was speaking to [Benno] already, [he's] definitely a character in the dressing room and he’s made me feel very welcome and given me a few pointers already on different stuff.

"I feel like it’s a great bunch of lads and I think we will do well this season.”
