Pre Morecambe | Steve Cotterill

10 March 2023

Manager Steve Cotterill chatted to the media ahead of our League One clash with Morecambe.

We host Derek Adams' side at Montgomery Waters Meadow tomorrow looking to build on our excellent run of form that has seen us win seven, draw two and lose just two of our last 11 matches.

With heavy snow having fallen across the country, Steve discussed how the weather has impacted training this week, while the boss also gave an update on Killian Phillips after the midfielder was involved in a nasty clash of heads in the game at Derby.

Speaking earlier this morning, the boss was also asked about comments made by Derek Adams ahead of the game that Town's success this season has been achieved with a mid-table budget.

ON THE SNOW:

"You can probably see in the background what’s going on – we've still got a little bit of work to do before we get out on to the training pitch this morning.

"But the lads are hard at it and we will probably be getting out there in the next hour or so."

ON CHEY DUNKLEY BEING NOMINATED FOR LEAGUE ONE PLAYER OF THE MONTH:

"I wouldn’t just rate his performances over the past month, I’m surprised it’s taken this long for Chey to be nominated.

"He has been outstanding for us this season – as have a few of our players.

"Thankfully, Luke (Leahy) got recognised last month. But Chey, talking about him, he has been outstanding – not just in the last month but throughout the season for us. We are delighted with him."

ON OUR PERFORMANCES OVER THE LAST 11 GAMES:

"I’ve been really pleased. Obviously, we weren’t so pleased the other night when we got beat 2-1 at Peterborough – but we didn’t deserve that.

"We’ve been talking about Chey Dunkley, there was a nailed-on penalty against him the other night. Nailed on when you look back at it.

"And we know how Luke Leahy has been from the penalty spot so that would have been another point on the board and we wouldn’t have had to drive home with a defeat in our pocket. We were a bit disappointed with that.

"But all-in-all, I think the level of performances and the commitment from the boys has been exceptional.

"I’m really, really, proud. I’m really pleased with them – we just have to keep it going now."

ON KILLIAN PHILLIPS:

"He is getting better. We are pleased with his progress. He took a hefty bang last weekend but, hopefully, we will see him sooner rather than later."

ON EVERYONE ELSE:

"We’ve got nothing new thankfully, unless anyone has slipped over in the snow this morning!"

ON MORECAMBE AND DEREK ADAMS SAYING HE IS EXPECTING A DIFFICULT GAME AGAINST A TEAM WITH A MID-TABLE BUDGET:

“Mid-table budget is my initial thought, is that what he said? Interesting.

“18th we are in the league, just for your knowledge, Derek.

"We are 18th in the league for budget and it could well be less than that after the last window because two of our lads (Aiden O’Brien and Julien Dacosta) went out.

“It could be less than that. But we are 18th, just to make sure we are correct on that.

“But we have done really well on that.

“It will be a tough game against Morecambe. We’re not expecting anything different. But it’s a game we are looking forward to. We want to bounce back from the other night and get a win.” Generic-Web-Banner-Home-22-23.jpg
