Club Statement | Brian Caldwell

2 May 2023

Shrewsbury Town can confirm chief executive Brian Caldwell has left the club with immediate effect.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Brian for all his hard work during his seven years with the club.

Brian’s departure will see the club create a new management structure with the implementation of a football board.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Peter Brophy to the newly designated position of chief operating officer.

His role will be to review all areas of the non-football side of the business and implement strategies to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of our departments within the club.

Peter’s appointment to the new management committee follows the arrival of Duncan Montgomery as the club’s finance director.

Further appointments to the new football board will be made in due course.

Peter Brophy has worked at Shrewsbury Town since January and has recently completed 30 years of service in policing.

He joined the police force as a 19-year-old and attained the rank of detective chief inspector across the West Midlands and West Mercia force areas.

More recently, Peter had a national audit/inspection role with the Police Inspectorate.

Having made an impressive contribution in helping to redefine and improve our response to safeguarding, we welcome Peter to our senior management team.

Duncan Montgomery was appointed the club’s finance director back in February.

He has specific responsibility for finance, given his background as a finance specialist and businessman in Shropshire and the nearby area for over twenty years.
