PSA testing event to be held at the Croud Meadow

13 February 2024

We will be holding a PSA testing event in the Training and Media Centre next to the foundation building at the stadium on Monday, March 18th, from 6pm-9pm.

The PSA Test is a blood test that can detect the early signs of prostate cancer.

The event has been organised in conjunction with the Shropshire Prostate Cancer Support Group.

Following the recent news that one of our own staff members, Dave Cossie, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, we as a club want to show how committed we are to doing what we can to encourage more men take this potentially life-saving test.

Speaking on how a PSA test saved his life, Dave said: "My twin brother was diagnosed with prostate cancer and because I was a twin, I was asked to get regular checks.

"I've had two or three which were normal and then my PSA blood test came back high on the next one.

"I had an MRI biopsy and they told me that I had prostate cancer. Luckily mine was caught early and that's what I'm trying to get across.

"If people go and ask for a PSA blood test it can give you an early indication that you have either an enlarged prostate or prostate cancer."

This will be our third public showing of support for prostate cancer awareness following Dave's own fundraiser and our prostate cancer awareness dedicated match against Cambridge in February.

Tests cost £15 and can be booked by TAPPING HERE or by following this link: https://www.mypsatests.org.uk/Events/?s=shrewsbury

The statistics:

About 15% of all men with a ‘normal’ PSA level (under 4 ng/ml) may have prostate cancer.

Two out of three men with a raised PSA level don't have prostate cancer.

One out of three men with a raised PSA level will have cancer.
