Andy Cooke returns to Shrewsbury Town as business development manager

14 May 2024

Shrewsbury Town are pleased to announce former striker Andy Cooke has returned to the club after being appointed to the role of business development manager.

A powerful forward in his playing days, Andy is a fan favourite among Salop supporters for scoring the goals that fired us to Wembley back in the 2006/07 season.

Now, though, he is responsible for looking after our business goals as we work to generate new income streams and attract new partners to the Croud Meadow.

Over the past two months, the club has carried out an extensive recruitment process to appoint the right business development manager.

And we are delighted to see Andy return to the club - with his experience in sales, fan engagement and partnership growth making him the outstanding candiate.

He will now work alongside chief executive Liam Dooley and commercial manager Andy Tretton to grow the business side of Shrewsbury Town.

Andy said: "It's a privilege and an honour to be back at this wonderful football club.

"Shrewsbury Town has a special place in my heart. I was born in the town and I always wanted to end my playing career here.

"Now I've got another fantastic opportunity to help drive things forward on the business side.

"It was actually my partner's brother who first sent me the job after it had been advertised.

"He sent me a message saying 'This has got your name written all over it' and now, here I am, back at the club I love.

"After retiring from football I've had a number of roles that, I believe, have given me the experience and contacts required to be a success as business development manager at Shrewsbury Town.

"I've got a background in sales which has always been focused on engaging with people and getting out and building relationships.

"I've also got experience in property development - something I did during the credit crunch at a time when you really had to be inventive and change direction quickly if you wanted to reach your goals.

"And I also got offered a position generating new business in the Middle East.

"For me, this new role is all about building trust.

"It's about building trust with our existing partners. And it's about forging links and fostering engagement with new partners to see how we can help them and how they can help us.

"Hopefully, together, we can elevate business for all - and that doesn't just have to be with companies in Shrewsbury, it can be in Shropshire and beyond.

"I'm happy to get out and visit anyone and have a chat.

"This is a football club that has always been in my heart and now I'm really looking forward to working with both Liam and Andy to try and engage with more people more businesses."
