Samuel Ricketts was appointed Salop Manager in December 2018, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal at the Montgomery Waters Meadow after leaving National League outfit Wrexham AFC.

Two days into Ricketts’ appointment, Town beat Walsall to reach the third-round of the EFL Trophy. He was the first manager since Graham Turner in 2010 to win on his Shrewsbury debut.

During an extensive and varied playing career, Ricketts represented the Welsh national team, qualifying through his Welsh Grandmother. In September 2013, he reached the milestone of 50 caps for Wales and went on to make two more appearances for the Dragons.

Ricketts’ professional playing career began in October 2000 with Oxford United after a number of years in the U’s youth system. The former defender made over 550 senior appearances with his former clubs that include; Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bolton Wanderers, Hull City and Swansea City – a career that saw Town’s Manager play in every tier of professional football in England.
