Ryan Woods On Nomination For FL Award

15 April 2015

Midfielder Shortlised For League 2 Player Of The Year

The winner of the Sky Bet League 2 Player of the Year award will be announced at a gala ceremony at The Brewery, London on Sunday 19th April 2015.

"Sometimes a wonder goal makes the difference and that’s the way it happened at Bury which is unlucky for the boys, but our focus is now on Saturday and we want to get three points on the board," said Woods.

“Being suspended means I have had to miss them but I am itching to get back into it and hopefully get some minutes under my belt."

And after the disappointment of the away loss to Bury, which Woods watched from the stands due to suspension, he is itching to get back onto the field.

"People forget about how young you are once you start putting in good performances," said Woods.

"That’s the best way I think. I don’t want people to know me as a young player, I want them to know me as a good player, but I just have to keep learning and keep progressing to become the best player I can.

“Alfie Mawson has scored a lot of goals for Wycombe and fair play to Danny Mayor as well but we all want to win it so hopefully the best man wins."

And the midfielder is happy to have been nominated for the senior award rather than the young player award.

"It has gone really well for me and the team," said Woods.

"There is three games remaining and the main aim is promotion but we still think we can win the league.

"I am absolutely delighted (to be shortlisted). It is a reward for the way I have been playing this season but obviously that is not just down to me but the lads around me who keep pushing me on.

"It is a massive honour, especially playing my first season in my natural position. Obviously I have to say a massive thank you to the gaffer for trusting in me."

And the Shrews academy graduate is hopeful making the shortlist is only the first of many accolades for himself and Town this season.

Each manager was asked to list their top five players from this season in order, with the scores added up to get a shortlist and an overall winner.

The Player of the Year awards have been voted for by managers of the clubs in each of the Football League's three divisions.

Woods, 21, is one of three players shortlisted for the prestigious accolade alongside Alfie Mawson (Wycombe Wanderers) and Danny Mayor (Bury).

Shrewsbury Town midfielder Ryan Woods is delighted to have been shortlisted for the Sky Bet League 2 Player of the Year award at the Football League Awards.
